What is Custom Fitting?
Custom fitting in the broadest sense is building a club designed to match your individual swing characteristics so that you hit the ball longer and straighter with better control. The TaylorMade Performance Lab is able to provide golfers with "Golf's Ultimate Fitting Experience" utilizing the same revolutionary advancements in motion capture technology seen in such films as Lord of the Rings, Batman and King Kong.
Previously available only to PGA Tour professionals, the two-hour custom-fitting experience is conducted in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and includes driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putter. It is beneficial to men, women, and junior golfers of all ages and skill levels.
How Does it Work?
During the fitting process, reflective markers are placed on strategic points on your body as well as on the shaft and head of the fitting club. Nine separate high speed synchronized cameras capture the motion of the reflectors and instantaneously produce a three-dimensional image of the subject. This 3D image can be viewed in motion from any angle (from above, below, front, back, or either side) and is used to demonstrate what your swing is doing dynamically. The image can easily be manipulated to provide valuable feedback for you to better understand your swing characteristics. Additionally, data collected from our specialized launch monitor is integrated with the motion capture data.
Motion Capture
- Reflective markers are placed on the subject, clubhead, and club shaft.
- Nine special high-speed cameras capture the movement of the markers in space.
- The computer quantifies the data captured by the cameras to create a three-dimensional animation of the subject's swing.
Personal Swing Analysis
- The technical data is displayed in a graphical format to quantify the golfer's swing characteristics.
- The PGA professional analyzes and discusses the data with the golfer.
Club Recommendation
- The golfer's swing characteristics are compared to TaylorMade's database containing over 500,000 golf swings collected from golfers of all abilities.
- Using sophisticated algorithms, a recommendation is generated for the clubs best suited to the individual golfer's swing.
- Validation of the recommendation is provided by giving the golfer the opportunity to hit the actual recommended clubs on the adjacent practice facility.

How long does it take?
The fitting process involves placing special reflectors on the club shaft and head and your body in order to capture a number of swings with the driver, iron and putter to gain a true representation of your swing dynamics and impact position. These swings are analyzed by a custom fitting specialist and PGA qualified professional, which takes approximately one hour. Once this has been completed and understood, you will be escorted out on to our grass range to validate the club recommendations for the remainder of the two hour session.
