Charlie -- Absolutely great first show. I am very interested in your views regarding the importance of backswing plane. Does it really matter that much if the club goes back "too far inside?" Isn't it far more important that it be on plane on the downswing? Does taking the club back inside make it harder to get it on plane on the downswing? Regards from Boston, Andrew

Charlie, I shared this with friends who are very frustrated with their game, or lack of same. Please talk about a good key for starting backswing as opposed to position. As you know a backswing can be multi directional and still hit it straight. I'm living proof. Can't wait for the next episode..

Charlie,

Great show! Can you give us some drills to use on a impact bag? Can you use the impact bag incorrectly? What happens if you are trying the line drill and you start hitting everything to the right? Should you think more about the toe up/toe up drill? I would assume the face is wide open at impact and not rotating. Please help if you can! Looking forward to your next show!

I enjoyed your show and look forward to learning more from you. I too am interested in how to use an impact bag. I bought one but don't know what I am supposed to do with it.

23.5 handicap hoping to shave a few strokes this year!

Thank you for your desire to help golfers like me!

Thanks for answering my question about what powers the golf swing but your answer brought up another question. Please discuss how you plant the front leg to provide resistance to swing against. When I try that it seems to have me come up and out of the shot.

Thank you

There is a modern term often used to describe someone's ability to influence others. That term is "street cred." It refers to a persons experience and reputation to have "walked the walk" so to speak. In the world of golf instructors, no one has more street cred than Hank Haney. After all, he's Tiger's teacher. He must be the best, right? Well, maybe not.

Last year, the Golf channel paired this guru with Charles Barkley, to cure, once and for all, what had been called the worst golf swing in the world. Six months and six million range balls later, he was still a basket case. Now surely we can't blame Mr. Haney for this, despite the fact he admitted to being sure he could fix Charles' swing nightmares in an hour or so. Mr. Barkley must not have been ready, right Hank.

This years' installment of Haney to the rescue pairs him with Ray Romano from sitcom fame. Like Barkley, he passionately loves the game, and his frustration has reached the boiling point. With half of the series aired, both parties readily admit very little progress has been made. Well, I guess Ray isn't ready either. Give me a Big Break!

The fact is that Tiger Woods was great before he started working with Mr. Haney, and he'll be great long after he doesn't employ him as an extra set of eyes. If it was just as simple as the show not being interesting, I wouldn't spend more than a minute addressing it, but the failure goes farther and deeper than that. The PGA of America and its' thousands of members have spent decades trying to convince the golfing public that a series of lessons from a good instructor will get you to your personal goals quicker than buying the newest ball or equipment, and they couldn't be more right. It seems odd that one of the most visible members of their fraternity is reinforcing the publics' skepticisms and fears regarding committing to lessons every week on national television.

The excuses are already being sneaked in to the shows. He won't listen. Celebrities are very tough to deal with, and always trying to self diagnose. Well, after this seasons' mission impossible, the Golf channel might find one of the instuctors who gets results, even with celebrities. I know someone if they need any suggestions. Oh, and he also has an interesting TV persona, just in case you start being interested in ratings.
