I've posted the second segment below of The Red Zone TV Show that we did last year.  There are a couple of golf tips in the segment, but the thing that I think is the most instructive is watching the golfers through impact.  The most common fault in golf is the upward bending wrists I call scooping.  Notice which golfers hit the ball the most solid.  It is the golfers with firm wrists at impact.  I know I harp on this, but have you done your drills to make good imact a habit?  Keep up the good work.

New Rules of Golf Instruction-Essential Skill of the Week-Swing the Club

This brings us to the halfway point of the 7 Essential Skills for Golf.  My title says "Swing the Club", I also call this skill Effortless Clubhead Speed.  If you have been working on your skills as we have been reviewing each skill, your pre-swing is better, you are hitting the golf ball solidly and your body is supporting the swing and being a powerful base for operations.

Our instinct is to muscle the club to get our distance.  We tend to be quick from the top and using very tight grip pressure.  I call the video "Is your Swing Really a Swing?" because the term "swing" is used too loosely by golfers.  Watch the video to get the explanation and the drills that make your golf swing into a swing.

In this blog , I focus on golf improvement.  Anything and everything that leads to golfers getting better.  Today I want your comments and feedback.  In the comment section, please tell me what you want.  Tell me what would help you the most.  Let me know if there is a topic I haven't covered that you want more of.

If you leave a comment, I will give you 10% off your next golf school or golf lesson with us.  The comment section will make it easy to keep track of. (I obviously want your comments as I am giving you this ethical bribe).

As I always like to do, I've included a video.  This is one of the Adventures of O. R. Smith, Old Rules Golf Instructor that you may have missed.  It is my favorite because it is so true of a typical video analysis.

New Rules of Golf Instruction - Essential Skill of the Week - The Body

  | Submit to Digg digg it |  Add to delicious  delicious |  Submit to StumbleUpon StumbleUpon |  Share On Technorati Technorati | Submit to Reddit reddit

The first two weeks we covered Pre-Swing in two parts (if you missed these, look back a couple of posts) and how to achieve Solid Contact.  This week I have included the video about the most effective way to use the body in your golf swing.

This is misunderstood by many people and the misconceptions are fed by articles on the "Big Muscles".  These articles have some fact behind them but still lead to trouble when golfers aren't given a balanced view of how the body interacts with the hands, arms and wrists.  You might want to watch the video below a couple of times to make sure you have got a firm grasp of the Essential Skill.  Keep putting these skills into your golf game for maximum improvement.
