A Campaign Speech Targeted for YOUR Golf Game and How to Hit it PURE

 

By now you've heard about my fictional run for President of Golf Instruction.  Yes, it's a spoof, but I really do believe that the current way we teach golf is not helping golfers and a new "administration" needs to take office and help golfers reach their full potential.

I've Made a 3 Part Video for You and I'm Running for President

Hi everybody! 

 

Okay I know there is no such thing as President of Golf Instruction (I’m not that delusional yet).  I have created a fictional election during this election year to highlight a problem and give the solution.

 

Why does anyone run for president?

 

Because they want to change the way things are being done. And I think it’s time for a change in golf instruction.

 

I have identified nine standards (Download New Rules e-book www.newrulesgolf.com ) that you should look for in a golf instructor – standards which, if they don’t have, their teaching is well, (forgive the pun) – sub par. “The current administration” is still doing things the old way -- which is trying to force students into a method or model.

 

You know guys --- golf is a motor skill. It has to be treated as such. Each person’s body and brain work differently. No one method, movement, golf ball or club -- or piece of practice equipment -- is going to turn you into an excellent golfer.

 

BUT I KNOW WHAT CAN!

 

It’s time for a new wave to spread across the golf community. Time -- high time! -- for people to stop being frustrated with their game and with themselves. So I’ve started this campaign for presidency to draw awareness to the need for a different way of teaching and a different way of thinking about your own golf abilities. I’m starting the “New Rules” party and our “platform” will be centered around the nine standards that will allow you to become the golfer you deserve to become.

You haven’t heard from me as much over the last few of months because I have been working on creating a way for you to hit more “Pure” golf shots, lower your scores and be less confused and more satisfied with your golf game.  I have been bringing in a professional video crew on Mondays for the last several months to create instructional video segments that will lead to golfers reaching their potential.

New Rules of Golf Instruction - Essential Skills of the Week - Grip and Posture

I think it is important to get a refresher course for our golf swing in our Essential Golf Skills.  I am going to highlight them one by one over the next several weeks.  I have included two videos 1) The Introduction to my Seven Essential Skills and 2) Part 1 of Pre-Swing, Grip and Posture

The President's Cup had great shots and great golf in general.  These guys are so good at Pre Swing Essentials, it is second nature. 

The Grip is where golf starts.  Nothing happens until you grip the club.  There are three functions of a good grip and the video below will highlight them for you.

Posture is how you bend over to the ball and prepare to swing.  There are some keys to posture that will help you in the video as well.  Watch the following video and check your current skills against the thoughts in the video and adjust if necessary.

Golf Lessons and Practice Pay Off During Reynolds Red Zone Challenge

On Tuesday, September 22 we completed the $10,000 Reynolds Red Zone Challenge.  Congratulations to Jim Thorne who won the Challenge and will receive the Grand Prize.  Jim will be treated like a Tour Player during his full fit at the TaylorMade Kingdom and will take home a brand new custom fit set of TaylorMade golf clubs.  We would also like to congratulate the other 7 finalists.

 

The 9-hole 100 yds and in tournament on Monday, cut the field down to the final 4.  Because of weather our 4 finalists came back on Tuesday afternoon to hit 2 shots each in our 6 short game test categories.  The score was very close coming down to a final putt by Jim Thorne that gave him the win.  We had some refreshments and awarded the prizes.  Everyone played well and seemed to have a great time!

Interview with Canadian National Golf Coach, Henry Brunton

You may not have heard of Henry yet, but you should and you will.  Henry is a pioneer in the way to set up a program that leads to golfers reaching their potential.  He was my expert contributor for the chapter in "New Rules of Golf Instruction" about successful programs.

Golf's Red Zone Challenge - The Happy Caddy Game

The Happy Caddy game (or Unhappy Caddy if your partner doesn't hit his pitches well) was first published in Golf's Red Zone Challenge 4 years ago, which been released as a second edition a month ago (available at www.amazon.com).  In this game you have a partner and one ball.  You need to find a field or area that allows and you and your partner to hit 20 to 70 yard shots at each other.  Your partner is happy when you keep landing the ball at his or her feet each time.  The focus that this drill creates is as good as any I've seen for wedges.

The idea for this drill came fifteen years ago as I was taking a lesson from Top 100 teacher, Craig Shankland. He told me that the players of his era were more accurate.  Watch the following video to hear the rest of the story.

 

A New Rules Video Analysis Won't Overwhelm You

One of the mistakes an Old Rules instructor makes is to analyze too many details when they review the video of the golfer's swing during a lesson.  This can lead to discouragement and confusion with so many details floating in the golfer's mind at one time. 

A friend of mine went to a top instructor years ago.  He is a golf professional and a player who shoots 70 to 76.  When his swing was analyzed by this highly touted instructor, he found 13 "faults" and said, "we can get started on one of them today."  This is Old Rules instruction at its worst.  A New Rules instructor would have prioritized the #1 issue and explained the concept and drill that would lead to the player being skillful.

Video is one of the most helpful tools we have in golf instruction.  Because we can't see ourselves swing, seeing the key problem can give us clarity and trust in the fix given by the instructor.
