I know golf can be frustrating and at times golf instruction can be frustrating as well. I want you to answer two questions and have a chance to win a dozen TaylorMade Penta golf balls.
In the Comment section below, just answer the following two questions. I will take all the golfers who answer the questions over the next two days and do a random drawing for the golf balls. I will take the problems listed and work on some solutions for you.
- What are the top two things that frustrate you about golf?
- What are the top two tings that frustrate you about golf instruction?
I'm looking forward to your responses.
All the Best,
Charlie King

By now you've heard about my fictional run for President of Golf Instruction. Yes, it's a spoof, but I really do believe that the current way we teach golf is not helping golfers and a new "administration" needs to take office and help golfers reach their full potential.
As part of my Presidential campaign, I taped a campaign speech. You can watch it here.
The speech lays out all the things that I believe would help your golf game the most. I talk about the way I think golf should be taught and how you deserve to reach your FULL POTENTIAL.
In the speech, I tell you why I think there's an inherent problem with using a method or model to teach the full swing. My "platform" focuses on SKILLS, just like any other sport.
I talk about why it's hard to trust a golf instructor and how my profession needs to make this right. I want to give you a road map to follow to play your best golf.
I know you want to hear how to hit the ball LONGER, STRAIGHTER and how to MAKE MORE SHORT PUTTS. You can get that by downloading the Clinic on the website!
I also am unveiling my biggest campaign promise: Pure Impact: The Solid Contact Project. This easy to understand program is designed to focus teachers and golfers on golf's magic, addictive feeling. This feeling I'm referring to is the feeling of a pure shot hit right in the sweetspot of the club. If you were feeling that more often, you would be loving golf more and having more fun. I'm going to show you how. Click on www.charliekingforpresident.com and enter your name and e-mail address to get access to the 2 videos.
So, check out the video of my campaign speech by clicking here or go directly to http://www.charliekingforpresident.com/ and watch my run for President of Golf Instruction unfold.

Is that possible? In this case ... YES!
The drill I show on page 52 of the July issue and the video at www.golf.com/slice is one of the simplest but most powerful drills in golf. Click here to watch me explain the drill on golf.com.

Hello, Golfers! As most of you have heard by now, I’m campaigning hard to be the next President of Golf Instruction (www.charliekingforpresident.com). Why? Because it’s time for a change --- it’s time for the new rules of learning golf to be shared with the public. No more forcing a square peg into a round hole. Rather, my new party will allow every golfer to be Unique --- to develop their own style while developing and fine-tuning their Skills.
You see, that’s what it’s all about --- looking at golf as a motor skill like swimming, and then breaking it down into learnable, improvable parts or steps. I recently explained this to Golf News Network anchor Traci Buch, who interviewed me as I drove through the state of North Carolina on my way to yet another golf course and another campaign stop (www.charliekingforpresident.com ) .
I have hit the campaign trail, going from state to state and visiting golf clubs to reveal my new party platform -- and enlist the support of golfers who understand that there is a better way. As you all well know, change is not always an easy thing to effect. Especially when something has been established and ingrained for so long --- as is the case with the old party, with the old rules of golf training.
I am delighted that Traci interviewed me, because not only was it a good exercise for me to think through and share WHY I launched this campaign in the first place --- but it also reconfirmed for me how important my mission is and reignited my passion to help golfers everywhere improve their game.
Let’s face it --- that’s what we all want. It’s the primary reason that you are even reading this e-mail. Yet for all these many years, people have been shown an example or model and told, “This is the way to do it. You have to look like this…” or “You have to swing like this.” Horse hockey! If you have the seven essential skills of golf, and you practice those skills, you can swing your own way if it works for you. My feeling is this: There is no single “best way” – but there IS a best way for YOU.
When you click here and you watch the short video of my Golf News Network interview, I’m willing to bet that you will be inspired too --- that you will feel your own passion to change how golf is instructed. And when you do --- then let your fingers do the typing and forward my e-mail to your friends. Let’s make this viral --- let’s sweep the cobwebs off these old ways of thinking and start a revolution in golf --- a revolution that will lead to more golfers across America getting lower scores and enjoying the game more than ever before. Now that’s something to get excited about!
Until next time…
Your devoted golf instructor,
Charlie King (and your future President ;-)

Hi everybody!
Okay I know there is no such thing as President of Golf Instruction (I’m not that delusional yet).
I have created a fictional election during this election year to highlight a problem and give the solution.
Why does anyone run for president?
Because they want to change the way things are being done. And I think it’s time for a change in golf instruction.
I have identified nine standards (Download New Rules e-book www.newrulesgolf.com ) that you should look for in a golf instructor – standards which, if they don’t have, their teaching is well, (forgive the pun) – sub par. “The current administration” is still doing things the old way -- which is trying to force students into a method or model.
You know guys --- golf is a motor skill. It has to be treated as such. Each person’s body and brain work differently. No one method, movement, golf ball or club -- or piece of practice equipment -- is going to turn you into an excellent golfer.
BUT I KNOW WHAT CAN!
It’s time for a new wave to spread across the golf community. Time -- high time! -- for people to stop being frustrated with their game and with themselves. So I’ve started this campaign for presidency to draw awareness to the need for a different way of teaching and a different way of thinking about your own golf abilities. I’m starting the “New Rules” party and our “platform” will be centered around the nine standards that will allow you to become the golfer you deserve to become.
I MADE A HIGH DEF VIDEO FOR YOU
to watch The Clinic. I brought in a professional video team to capture my full swing clinic in High Definition. It simplifies for you the 3 tasks in hitting a golf ball: Solid Contact, Direction and Distance. There are three drills in this video that have helped and changed so many golfers that I want you to have access to it.
Also, I want to encourage you to forward this e-mail to all your golfing friends. It will simplify golf for them and you will get the credit.
I HAVE BEEN CREATING A LOWER SCORES SOLUTION FOR YOU
You haven’t heard from me as much over the last few of months because I have been working on creating a way for you to hit more “Pure” golf shots, lower your scores and be less confused and more satisfied with your golf game. I have been bringing in a professional video crew on Mondays for the last several months to create instructional video segments that will lead to golfers reaching their potential.
All the things somebody should have told me 20 years ago that would have cut my learning time down by at least half, I will have available to you starting on June 15th. It will come in the form of a membership website like no other. The site will be called the “New Rules of Golf Potential Club”. This site will be for all golfers who have even a faint desire to reach their potential in golf. My program will unlock the secrets to having that “light bulb” go off in your head -- and suddenly you’ll realize what you need to do to improve.
It will be like having regular private lessons from me -- with information that you can immediately apply to your golf game. The people that I have run it by so far have been blown away. They’re like “Wow Charlie – this is good stuff!” or “Charlie – You’ve got something here!” There are a whole bunch of benefits to joining –
But I’m not asking you to join now.
All I am asking you to do now is go to www.charliekingforpresident.com
, watch the videos for my run for President and on June 15th join The New Rules of Golf Potential Club.
AND FINALLY, FINALLY, YOU WILL HAVE FOUND SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE IN YOUR GOLF GAME!
I’m excited to share it!!
Charlie
P.S. Stay tuned for my next e-mail (I’ve created two videos for you that will have you hitting it “Pure”).
P.P.S. Let me know what you think about my new website, run for President and the new member website I am launching.

This was my 21st PGA Merchandise Show starting with my first in 1989. The heyday of the Show was in the '90's culminating with the Show in 1999 spurred on by the .com boom. The place was buzzing like never before and the money was flowing from Silicon Valley and Wall Street. The .com bust took place in 2000 and the PGA sold the Show to Reed Expositions. Reed raised the prices and the big club manufacturers pulled out.
The PGA Merchandise Show has never quite been the same since then, but it still has plenty to look at and it brings the golf industry together for 4 days.
I spoke to the LPGA Teaching Division about the New Rules on Thursday and met with the PGA of America about a national Red Zone Challenge on Friday. I hit the Show floor on Saturday and found a couple of items that might be of interest to you. I have the URL's listed below.
- www.proplaygps.com is a portable video unit that allows you to videotape yourself easily and then play it back and upload it to your computer. Very convenient and a reasonable price.
- www.zelocity.comhas lower priced radar devices to measure ball speed or clubhead speed. This could be a great practice device to measure the consistency of your rhythm and distance control.
- www.eyelinegolf.comspecializes in putting training aids. They have a heavy ball to practice hitting the ball solid. The owner, Sam Froggatte is a great person and over delivers on his promises.
- www.morodz.com has good prices on alignment aids.
- www.gripitrite.comhas a training aid for grip developed by Canadian National Golf Coach and New Rules contributor, Henry Brunton. It fits on your golf club and gives you the feel of where your hands should be.
A couple of these items can certainly improve your game.
